Life has a way of getting you caught up in what needs to be done and sometimes, along the way, we lose our center...that one beautiful thing inside all of us that connects us with the world around us.  It was because of this feeling I came to Yoga.  Although I started my practice much later in life than many do, I think that is exactly what makes me a good role model for those who choose their age as an excuse for not doing things.

Several years ago I joined Foothill Gym in Monrovia, California.  Noticing the gym had won several awards for their outstanding Yoga program I figured what better place to start?  I enjoyed the classes I took very, very much.  Shortly after joining taking my first yoga class my teacher, and now dear friend, suggested I find a particular person who might give me the spiritual guidance I was so looking for.  With the help of my wonderful teachers, and my amazing husband, I found myself and my life getting "grounded" once again.

It was at my Teacher Rupa's feet that I was taught Ashtanga Yoga in its original and truest form, bringing the 8 limbs of yoga into my practice and into my life.  It is in this way I have chosen to teach, and to live.  I received my yoga certification from the Sajni Center for Yoga, (based in Bangalore, India) and I am a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and received my CYT from Yoga Alliance.

Each of my classes consist of a warm up period, Pranayama (breathing techniques), Asanas (body exercises), Mudras and Acu Yoga (self healers), Meditation and Savasana (final relaxation).  My Gentle and Chair Yoga classes follow the same basic guidelines however we modify the poses to fit the needs of each student.  I also introduce different methods of meditation in the hopes that you will find one practice that speaks to you and is easy to incorporate into your daily life.  Taking even just 5 minutes a day to just "be" can make a huge difference.  I firmly believe that you do not have to be young, thin or fit to do yoga.  Take each day one step at a time, take each class one pose at a time.  If you are struggling with tree pose, remind yourself that a gracefull willow is just as beautiful as the mighty oak or the tall palm.  And always keep your sense of humor.  We try to practice in a lighthearted and friendly atmosphere in the hopes you will enjoy and look forward to the next class.

I was given the opportunity to take classes with some of the most amazing teachers...ones I was able to find right here in my own backyard.  It was their wonderful words, knowledge and guidance that put me on the track to becoming a teacher and I will forever be grateful to each and every one of them.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to Pat, Sunday, Gyl and to my dear teacher Rupa.

Namaste,

Betsy
